Breeze of the Dawn

Graham McPherson - Singer/Songwriter

I recently came across this fab over 50’s songwriting website. Think mature wine, aged single malt or fine chocolate and you get the idea. The website is called “Talent is Timeless” and it is a place where all kinds of mature song writers share their talent through various competitions and forums. It has grown over the past three years to become global with thousands of members and entries into an annual songwriting competition. I did have a couple of songs in mind for it but settled with “Breeze of the Dawn”

Breeze of the Dawn began as a poem that Penny wrote, and features in her book “The Colours of the Sky”.  I took the poem and rearranged it a tincy bit and put a tune to it. I could have done an elaborate arrangement with harmony vocals, keyboards, bass and percussion/drums, but decided to enter it to the competition with a barebones version shot on my mobile phone in the garden – just me with my acoustic guitar and my busking amp. The reasoning was that if I was a songwriter judge on such a competition I would rather hear a simple version to gauge its core qualities and allow space to make room for any elaborate arrangements. I may be wrong but I’m guessing producers would be listening how to embellish the song and make it all the richer.
