Patience at Dunskey Castle

Dunskey Castle image by Graham McPherson - Skyhome

Dunskey Castle is a dramatic old ruin perched on the clifftops near Portpatrick. It has a ghostly feel to it and I thought it would suit a black and white conversion. I had several trips to the ruin looking to capture it in a warm evening glow but it turned out that this image with the stormy clouds worked best. It was a reasonably tough shot to get as it involved stitching five or six shots into a panorama with the sun behind me breaking through momentarily. That’s one of my pet dislikes when trying to get a panoramic shot. The light needs to be fairly constant to get all the shots to stitch smoothly. Ask any landscape photographer that has done panoramas and they will say the same thing – memories of wrestling with the light – waiting. Patience is key when the light is ever changing as it was here.
